Rita Mae Brown is the author of 14 novels including the groundbreaking lesbian novel "Rubyfruit Jungle" published in 1983, more than 20 mysteries, as well as screen plays and poetry. She holds a doctorate in political science from the Institute for Policy Studies and participated in the Stonewall Riots. Brown received an Emmy nomination in 1982.  She owns a horse farm in Crozet.
