Lawrence Webb

Lawrence Webb, who serves as the assistant dean of admission at the University of Mary Washington is the first openly gay black elected official in Virginia. He was elected to the Falls Church City Council in May 2008. He also serves on the board of Virginia's Dept of Correctional Education. Lawrence is a young man who overcame some tough challenges to rise above circumstance, get an education and position himself to make a difference. He is a graduate of Shenandoah University where he was the first African-American student government president. After graduating, he worked for Senator Chuck Robb leading voter education and registration efforts at universities and colleges in rural Virginia.
