Title: Board Member
Location: North Chesterfield
Carol has been on the board of directors of EV since January 2015. She volunteered after she and her wife, Mary were plaintiffs in the Bostic v. Schaefer lawsuit that resulted in Marriage Equality becoming the law after the Supreme Court let the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th circuit opinion stand that “Civil marriage is one of the cornerstones of our way of life. It allows individuals to celebrate and publicly declare their intentions to form lifelong partnerships, which provide unparalleled intimacy, companionship, emotional support, and security” (Bostic et al., v Schaefer, No. 14-1167 (4th Cir., 2014)). At the end of that case, Carol decided she was not done advocating for the LGBT community and decided EV was the best place to continue her efforts for full inclusion. Carol holds a doctoral degree in education from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where she is a researcher on supporting individuals with autism make the transition from school to work. She lives in North Chesterfield, VA with her wife, Mary, and her daughter, Emily, and the rescue pets that share their lives with them.
